HASSAN, JUNE 9. The Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, in a meeting of the irrigation authorities at Gorur on Monday, directed the officials to submit a report on the work to be taken up in the north and south canals of Sriramadevarahalla and Hemavathi right upper bank canal within three days, in view of the water release from the reservoir during second week of July. Mr. Revanna asked the authorities to undertake work on the construction of the connecting bridges at 12 places, remove silt, and clean the canals. He sought a status report on pending lift irrigation schemes, which come under Holenarsipur taluk, including Nagarti, Naagalapura, Sooranahalli, Bediganahosahalli, Paduvalahippe, Gunjevu, Kaduvinabachahalli, Olambige and Moolekalanahalli and asked the officials to submit fresh estimates to revive the schemes. He questioned the non-completion of Huchchanakoplu Lift Irrigation Scheme. He asked the authorities to take up the work on a priority basis and complete it by July 15. Mr. Revanna said that the minimum water storage level should be around 5.5 tmcft to release water from the reservoir to the farmers. The present storage was only 3.5 tmcft and would be sufficient to meet drinking water needs, he said. The reservoir needed at least 25 tmcft to release water in the Hemavathi left bank canal. The Managing Director of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam (CNN), Thimme Gowda, said that CNN had collected Rs. 250 crore to take up various works in the Cauvery Basin and had decided to collect another Rs. 250 core. He assured that he would take steps to rehabilitate 17 villages affected by Hemavathi backwaters after getting a comprehensive report from the Deputy Commissioner.
