CHITRADURGA, JUNE 9. The Deputy Commissioner, M.A. Sadiq, has asked the secretaries of gram panchayats and the Taluk Medical Officers to prevent the spread of contagious diseases. Speaking at a meeting on Tuesday to review the situation after reports of gastroenteritis in some parts of the districts, he warned them that failure to take preventive measures immediately would attract severe action. He said 42 people from Putlahalli, Janjaragunte, Chikkachellur, Korlakunte, Pillahalli and Pagadalabande villages of Challekere taluk have been diagnosed with the disease. He took a serious view of the taluk medical officers not reporting the matter to the district administration in spite of the outbreak of the disease. He asked people to drink water after boiling it and ordered the concerned officers to impose a ban on the sale of cut fruits on the roadside, spray larvicide on stagnant water and maintain cleanliness. P.S. Veerabhadrappa, District Health Officer, and other taluk health officers attended the meeting.
