Ecstasy and agony for Dragila

LONDON: Stacy Dragila didn't regain the women's pole vault world record after all.

Dragila, the 2000 Olympic gold medallist, thought she had set a new record when she cleared 4.83 metres at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava (Czech Republic) on Tuesday.

But the International Association of Athletics Federations said on Wednesday the jump wouldn't count as a record because the world body recognises the best indoor or outdoor performance as the overall record. That means the record is still held by Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva, who cleared 4.86 metres at the World indoor championships in Budapest in March. — AP
