Visakhapatnam wins overall team championship

VISAKHAPATNAM, JUNE 9. Visakhapatnam won the overall team championship with a tally of 355 points in the 21st sub-junior and 28th junior inter-district aquatic championships held here.

Krishna with 172 points was runner-up.

The following were individual champions in each age group:

Boys: Group I: C.M. Raj Kumar (Rangareddy). Group II: P. Laxman Kumar (VSP). Group III: Abhinav Reddy (Hyd). Group IV: Jishnu M. Dantu (RR).

Girls: Group I: T. Shilpa Naidu (VSP). Group II: Prodeepta Mukherjee (VSP). Group III: Swathi Sharma (Medak) and N. Tejaswani (VSP). Group IV: G. Pranathi (VSP).

M.S. Divya of Visakhapatnam notched up her third meet record. During the final session, she set a new mark in the 100m breaststroke in group I race. Second placed E. Mrinalini also crossed the old mark. Amrin Malik (VSP, girls group I 200m back stroke), Prodeepta (200 m back stroke), Shilpa Reddy (200 m freestyle), P. Kailasa Rao (VSP, boys group I 200 freestyle), Tulasi Chaitanya (Krishna, boys 200m individual medley), Laxman Kumar (100 m butterfly) and CM Rajkumar (200 m butterfly) created new meet records in the final session of the championship on Sunday.

Other winners of the final session were:

Boys: Group I: Sharan Kumar Shetty (VSP, 50 m and 100 m breast stroke), V. Pranav Kumar (Hyd, 200 m back stroke), P. Kailasa Rao (VSP, 200 m freestyle), Tulasi Chaitanya (Krishna, 100 m freestyle and 200 m IM), C.M. Rajkumar (RR, 50 m butterfly and backstroke) and G.V.K. Chaitanya (Krishna, 1,500 m freestyle).

Group II: N. Abhiram (RR, 200 m IM, 200 m breast stroke and 100 m freestyle), Md. Nizamuddin (Karimnagar, 50 m breast stroke), S. Ramakrishna (VSP, 200 m back stroke), M. Sai Krishna (Krishna, 400 m and 800 m freestyle), P. Purnachandra Rao (VSP, 400 m IM), Laxman Kumar (VSP, 50 m back stroke and butterfly) and P. Kamaraju (VSP, 50 m freestyle).

Group III: E. Abhinav Reddy (Hyd, 50 m butterfly, 200 m IM, 100 m butterfly), E. Vamsi (Guntur, 50 m breast stroke), P.B. Harsha (VSP, 100 m freestyle) and P. Abhishek (Krishna, 100 m breast stroke).

Group IV: Jishnu M. Dantu (50 m freestyle, backstroke and butterfly), S. Uday Kumar (50 m breast stroke).

Girls: Group I: Shilpa Naidu (100 m and 1,500 m freestyle), Jagruthi Sharma (200 m IM) and Amrin Malik (50 m back stroke and freestyle).

Group II: M. Kiran Mounika (Krishna, 200 m butterfly), Prodeepta (50 m back stroke and 200 m IM), G.K. Rachana (Hyd, 50 m breast stroke), P. Anusha (Krishna, 400 m freestyle), M. Anuhya (VSP, 50 m and 100 m freestyle), D. Sankalpa (Medak, 400 m IM), Tejaswani (VSP, 50 m and 100 m butterfly) and P. Anusha (Krishna, 800 m freestyle), Sakshi Yadav (Hyd, 200 m breast stroke).

Group III: M. Tejaswi (Hyd, 50 m and 100 m breast stroke and 50 m back stroke), Swathi Sharma (Medak, 50 m and 100 m freestyle and 200 m IM) and D. Shanti Laxmi (Medak, 100 m butterfly).
