Natesan flays order on MLA fund allocation

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, JUNE 9. The secretary of the Sree Naranaya Trusts and general secretary of the SNDP Yogam, Vellappally Natesan, has said that the Government order permitting allocation of the local area development fund of the MLAs for the unaided schools will only result in the education sector coming under the full control of some of the organised communities.

He was inaugurating the valedictory function of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Kollam Sree Narayana College Alumni Association here today.

Mr. Natesan said such an order would even result in the education sector becoming "a closed chapter" for the backward communities. He said that no funds worth the mention were being allocated for the development of the deprived communities.

When it came to the allocation of nursing colleges, while a particular community was allocated 34 colleges, the other communities together were given just six colleges.

He alleged that even rules for the education sector were being drafted to suit the interests of certain communities.

The Government had been following a policy of community appeasement. If those from the backward communities pointed out this, it would soon be interpreted as communalism, he added.

The poet O.N.V. Kurup released the sliver jubilee souvenir of the Alumni Association by handing over a copy to Mr. Natesan.
