MANGALORE, JUNE 9. A person posing as a salesman robbed a housewife of cash and valuables worth Rs. 38,000 at knifepoint on Kottekani Road, Urva Stores, in the Urva police station limits on Wednesday. The accused, who spoke Kannada, chose to strike when there was no one else in the house, the police said. They said that the "salesperson" entered the house of Ganesh, an engineer with a consultancy firm, on the pretext of selling his wares. After making a few enquiries with Vachana, Ganesh's wife, about household items, he reportedly robbed her of her mangalsutra at knifepoint and forced her to part with other valuables kept in a cupboard in the bedroom. The accused later gagged her and tied her hands and legs with ties in his possession, the police said. However, Vachana managed to bring herself to the window and cry for help, the police added.
