Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, JUNE 9. The sky will be partly cloudy with possibility of shower or thundershower in some areas in the late hours of Thursday.

On Wednesday, Nungambakkam registered a maximum of 35.1 and a minimum of 25.6 degree Celsius, while Meenambakkam recorded a maximum of 34 and a minimum of 23.5 degree Celsius. Humidity at Nungambakkam was 64 per cent and at Meenambakkam it was 66 per cent. Meenambakkam recorded 0.5 mm of rain.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday in some parts of Nungambakkam, Mandaveli, V.O.C. Nagar, Triplicane, Anna Salai, T.V.Pet, Pudupet and Park Town due to maintenance work.

Exhibition

A two-day numismatics exhibition of Japanese coins and currency notes will be organised at ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI's Tamil Nadu Centre at Aminjikarai from June 10 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The exhibition will display rare collections from 600-year-old coins and pebble-like coins, to silver and gold replicas of various currencies. Ryuzo Kikuchi, Consul General of Consulate General of Japan (Chennai), will inaugurate.

Surgery for actor

Blister marks on the lips of film actor Rajnikant were removed by a surgery at the Apollo Hospital. The actor was advised a day's stay at the hospital on Tuesday for a preventive check-up. Dr. Murugesan, performed the surgery, said a hospital release.

Blood donation

More than 50 persons donated blood at a camp organised by Indian Red Cross Society, in association with Tata Consultancy Services, Vadapalani, on Tuesday.

Eye screening

More than 90 persons were screened for eye ailments at a free eye camp organised by the Hindu Mission Hospital in Tambaram on Wednesday. Five persons were referred for free surgery.

Observed

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (Chennai) observed the World Environment Day on Tuesday. K.R.Ranganathan, environmentalist, spoke on the occasion.

Office-bearers

/New officers bearers of Choolaimedu Exnora Innovator's Club for 2004-07 were elected at its annual general body meeting recently. A. Panneerselvam was elected president and S.Kasturi Rangan, secretary.

Get-together

The Department of Horticulture has proposed to conduct a get-together, in association with social service organisation for organising `horticulture sales campaigns' in South Chennai. For details, contact the assistant director of horticulture at: 2555 4443 or programme coordinator at: 98401 47301.

Eye camp

Nearly 100 senior citizens were screened for various eye ailments at a camp, organised by the Centre for the Welfare of the Aged and Rajan Eye Care hospital in Mylapore, recently.

Quiz

The Respiratory Research Foundation of India conducted a respiratory medicine quiz for postgraduates in respiratory medicine and internal medicine on Sunday. Students of Chennai Medical College won first and second prizes. A student from JIPMER, Pondicherry, won the third prize.
