COIMBATORE, JUNE 9. Seventeen passengers sustained injuries when a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus bound for Coimbatore-Hosur fell into a roadside gorge at Vellanaipalayam near Karumathampatti on the outskirts of the City early this morning. According to police, the accident occurred when the driver tried to stop the bus by applying brake in a bid to negotiate a lorry that tried to overtake. The injured were treated at nearby private and Government hospitals.
Rectified spirit seized
The Coimbatore Rural Police today seized rectified spirit from a lorry carrying vegetables at Veerappangoundaanur (a village along the Kerala border) near Kinathukkadavu. According to police, 79 plastic cans estimated at Rs. 4 lakhs were found under the vegetable load. The driver and cleaner managed to escape.
