Minister to review Pushkaram works today

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, JUNE 9. The Minister for Endowments, M. Satyanarayana Rao, will review the Krishna Pushkaram works at Amaravathi with Guntur district officials on Thursday.

The Telugu Desam Party regime had proposed works estimated at Rs.25 crores under several departments for the Pushkaram, some of which had been grounded. The Congress Government had, however, decided to scale down the expenditure and the fate of these works would be decided at the meeting.

While the R&B Department was to take up works estimated at Rs.17.84 crores, the Endowments Department had proposed renovation of temples at Rs.5.05 crores and the Irrigation Department was to take up works valued at Rs.3.25 crores.

The Endowments officials are in a dilemma now as some of the temples were pulled down, but as per new guidelines only those close the Krishna bank had to be renovated. Only Amaravathi, Mangalagiri and Seethanagaram temples would be repaired for now.
