By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JUNE 9. Issue of APSRTC bus passes for students will commence on June 10. Applications forms, student route passes and free bus passes will be issued at the 18 existing RTC counters and 20 eSeva counters up to June 21. From June 22, this facility will be gradually extended to 43 eSeva centres. There is no change in the bus pass charges.

G. Panduranga Murthy, APSRTC Regional Manager, told presspersons here on Wednesday that the RTC had entered into an agreement with the eSeva for issue of all types of bus passes for a period of five years. This agreement would come into effect from June 22. All the bus passes will be renewed by the existing franchisee till June 21 as per scheduled dates. Ultimately, the number of bus pass centres will go up to 64 offering better service to the travelling public.

Three more new RTC centres have been introduced this year at Ibrahimpatnam, Kukatpally and Shamshabad. After completion of the transition, another eight RTC centres will become operational. They would be located at Mehdipatnam, Shapurnagar, A.G. College, Arts College, OU, NGOs Colony, BHEL, Secretariat and MCH, Mr. Murthy said.

He said during June the student general bus tickets would be renewed for a period of one month on the basis of identity cards issued during the academic year 2003-2004. But subsequently, the students have to submit fresh applications for new ID cards for the new academic year.

Fresh NGO passes would be issued from five RTC counters at Rathifile, Koti, Dilsukhnagar, Mehdipatnam and Sanathnagar while bus passes for the physically handicapped would be issued from Rathifile and Koti only.

Every year, the RTC issued 4.66-lakh passes of which 2.5-lakh was student passes and 46,000 NGO passes. During the year, Mr. Murthy said it was proposed to add 67 new buses in the Hyderabad City region. Besides, 258 old buses would be replaced with new ones. In the last couple of months the RTC had introduced five telescopic routes in the City, provided an additional 122 trips on various sectors, extended seven routes and introduced buses on five new routes. Besides, a mini bus was introduced on the Santoshnagar-Charminar route.

The RTC has come up with a new bus route map and timetable for the city. It contains route numbers, destinations, bus timings and frequency for different types of services operated by the Hyderabad city region. The map priced Rs. 10 is available for sale at the call centre, Koti terminus, Goodwill centre, Koti Women's College and all bus stations and depots.
