HYDERABAD, JUNE 9. The shifting process of Gandhi Hospital to its new premises at Musheerabad seems all set to meet the deadline of June 13, fixed by the Director, Medical Education, R. Shashiprabha, after the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (APJDA) threatened to launch an indefinite hunger strike to expedite the process. According to hospital authorities, nearly 75 per cent of the shifting is over and most of the wards will be operative in the new premises from next week. The Hospital Superintendent, A.Y. Chary, in a press note on Wednesday, said the outpatient and emergency services would begin functioning 9 a.m. on June 14. Officials said that presently only the traumatology, casualty and parts of the gynaecology departments, along with the OP, were still functioning at the old premises near Monda Market. All the inpatients have been shifted to Musheerabad, after the process picked up momentum on June 3, the day the APJDA had threatened to launch the strike. It forced Dr. Shashiprabha to set the deadline and appoint an officer on special duty (OSD), I.V. Rao, Additional Director, Medical Education, to monitor the shifting. "We have planned to run the emergency and intensive care units simultaneously at both the places for two to three days from June 11 so as to avoid inconvenience to patients. The casualty will also be started soon. We expect to complete the shifting process by June 14," Dr. Rao said.
