MADURAI, JUNE 9 . As many as 250 members of the employees' associations and unions of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) staged a demonstration here today, to press their demands, including salary revision. The Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) general secretary, P. Pitchai, led the agitation staged in front of the TNSTC headquarters. In a statement, the leaders of various trade unions wanted the State Government to revise the wage accord a process due since September 2001. They also urged the Government to restore benefits such as bonus, performance incentive, education assistance, festival advance, leave surrender and promotion. They demanded that the pension scheme be extended to all who retired since April 2003. They urged the Government to lift the ban on recruitment. Over 800 permanent posts that fell vacant because of retirement and dismissal had increased the burden on the staff, they pointed out. The unions wanted the Government to withdraw the cases and punitive measures initiated against those who had taken part in the strike.
