THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 9. The railway authorities have initiated several steps to maintain the punctuality of passenger, mail and express trains operating in the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division. The divisional authorities are monitoring each train passing through the division and the punctuality of each train is discussed threadbare at the punctuality meeting being held at the divisional headquarters every day, a railway official said. The faults of the mechanical, traffic, engineering and electrical wings are analysed at the meeting. The running of `bad trains', that have a poor track record of punctuality, will be monitored. The three `train controls' are closely monitoring the movement of trains passing through the Tirunelveli-Kollam stretch, Kollam-Ernakulam stretch via both Kottayam and Alappuzha railway stations and Ernakulam-Shornur sector. Meanwhile, the inquiry by the divisional authorities into the `near-collision' of the Chennai Egmore-Thiruvananthapuram Ananthapuri Express on June 1 is on. Two Station Masters, who were in-charge of the platform and cabin at the time of the incident, were suspended on June 1 and reinstated the next day by the railway authorities.
