Man falls

to death

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 9. A 42-year-old man was killed when he slipped and fell off the terrace of his house at Panachamoodu here at about 7 a.m. today. Joseph Raj of Panchakuzhy, Panachamoodu, was trying to chop the branches of a tree, which had uprooted in the rain the previous night and had fallen on to the terrace, when he slipped and fell. Mr. Raj died on the way to the Medical College Hospital. He is survived by is wife and children.

Phone-in programme

The Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha stations of All India Radio is organising a phone-in programme for the benefit of the students of the University of Kerala. The programme named `Tharangam' will provide answers to questions related to the various courses offered by the university. The calls are to be made on the telephone number 1707066, between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on June 10.

Nandalala Seva Samithi

The founder president of the Chennai- based Nandalala Seva Samithi, Mathiyoli Saraswathy, will be visiting Thiruvananthapuram from June 11 to 13. She will be attending several functions in the city during her visit. A souvenir is to be brought out in this connection. The samithi has been rendering service in the fields of education and spirituality for the past 16 years.

Public speaking course

The YMCA Institute of Public Speaking has started a 15-day course in public speaking for Plus Two, Degree and engineering students at the YMCA. The classes are being held from 10 a.m. to 12-30 p.m. A few more seats are vacant and interested persons should contact the secretary, according to a press release.

Felicitated

The Holy Angels' ISC School, Nanthenode today felicitated its special achievers, at a function held at the school. Among those who were honoured were Gayatri Balachandran who secured the 26th rank at the All India medical entrance examination and the 57th rank in the Kerala medical entrance examination, Lekshmi V., who had secured the first rank at the all Kerala law entrance test and Maria Teresa, the winner of the fifth rank in the same examination.

Medical camp

The Backward Classes Development Council conducted a free Ayurveda medical camp at Valiathura in the city, in view of the breakout of epidemics in the coastal regions of the district. V. Stanly Jones, Coordinator, Indian System of Medicine, led the medical team that examined the people.

Vedi demand

The Nadar Aikya Vedi has demanded a reshuffle of the State Cabinet with the induction of a member of the Nadar community. The State Secretariat of the Vedi expressed concern over the UDF Government neglecting the community over the past three years and decided to draw up an action plan to secure the rights of the community.

Yoga class

The Yoga Dhyana Sathsanga Samithi, Thycaud, is launching the 30th batch of its yoga-meditation class at the Sree Rema Devi Mandir at Vazhuthacaud on June 10. The classes are to be held from 6 to 7-30 a.m. More details can be had over telephone (Numbers 2320191, 2327199).
