New Delhi. June 10. The relations between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress are deteriorating by the day and the rhetoric is getting shriller. Two days after the Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi's outburst against the Uttar Pradesh Government, it was the turn of the SP to react. The party chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, today warned against attempts to destabilise his Government and brushed aside Mr. Gandhi's comments saying he was "too small a fry for him to respond to." Mr. Mulayam Singh's advice to the Congress to lay off his Government comes amid fears in the SP camp about "attempts" being made to destabilise the State Government. According to senior party leaders, a series of events in the last few days have led them to suspect that the Congress is toying with the idea of destabilising the State Government. Apart from Mr. Gandhi's remarks against the Uttar Pradesh Government, the Samajwadi Party leaders point to the "dressing down" given to some senior officials of the State Home Ministry by the Minister of State for Home, Sri Prakash Jaiswal.
