APSRTC stops long-standing transfers of staff
In a press release, the general secretary of the union, M. Nageswara Rao, thanked the management for the timely and positive decision. He urged the management to cancel the circular that provided for long-standing transfers of workers permanently as the employees would be free of unnecessary tension and fear. As their demand had been met, he said the agitational programme of observing June 17 as `struggle day' had been withdrawn.

In another release, the SCR said there were 28AC II-tier, 24, AC III-tier and 321 sleeper class berths available on the summer special train no. 742 leaving Secunderabad at 7 p.m. on June 14, for Tirupati. In the return direction, there are 29 AC II-tier, 27 AC III-tier and 502 sleeper class berths available on train no. 741, leaving Tirupati at 5.05 p.m. on June 15. On the special train no. 771 leaving Kanyakumari at 12.55 on June 15 for Kachiguda, there were 29 AC II-tier, 27 AC III-tier and 502 sleeper class berths.

Five AIDS deaths in Karimnagar district in 2003-04
Disclosing this to a delegation from the Bill Gates Foundation, which arrived here on Thursday, the Karimnagar district Collector, Sumita Dawra, said there was high incidence of AIDS cases from 24 mandals in the district. She said the district administration had launched awareness programmes and were organising meetings in all the 63 primary health centres and 12 urban health centres. The Superintendent of Police, R. S. Praveen Kumar, the District Medical and Health Officer, A. Anantha Reddy, the Bill Gates Foundation AP programme manager, Padma Chandrashekhar, the Director, Ashok Alexander, and others were also present.
Hyena found dead
According to the information received, the tribals of the Puli Singh `thanda' initially found a highly decomposed body of a 45-year-old man near Mallepally. Going by a pesticide tin and a liquor bottle found close to the body, it was suspected that the man had committed suicide. Later, the tribals found the hyena at a distance of about half a km from the human body. "The flesh-eating mammal might have eaten the decomposed body,'' a police officer said.

Addressing the teachers who participated in the dharna, the president of the State Teachers Union, S. Mukund Rao, said the AP High court had declared Mr. Narayan Rao's promotion illegal. He said that the AP Administrative Tribunal had, on December 12 last year, ordered a reduction in Mr. Narayan Rao's payscale subsequent to the declaration.

According to information, they had first beaten up the husband of sarpanch of Settur village Chilamattur mandal, Narasimha Reddy (TDP), earlier in the day. Later, TDP activists staged a rasta roko at the Kodikonda checkpost in protest but withdrew it after a police warning. When the TDP activists were retreating, the Congress activists allegedly attacked a public telephone booth and a wine shop owned by TDP sympathisers.
