CHENNAI, JUNE 10. The Madras High Court today extended the last date for submission of applications for admission to MBBS and allied courses till June 14 and also restrained the Anna University selection committee from finalising the merit list. Justice Prafulla Kumar Misra, passing orders on hundreds of writ petitions filed by Plus-Two students aggrieved by deletion of 22 `ambiguous questions' from the Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examinations, said the interim relief was necessary "to avoid multiplicity of proceedings and further complications." Recording the apprehension of the petitioners' counsel that many students might not have submitted their applications as the cases were being heard, Mr. Justice Misra said: "I consider it appropriate to extend the last date for submitting the applications till June 14. The students shall submit their forms along with the present marks on or before the extended date. However, no merit list would be prepared for the time being." Posting the matter to June 18, the judge said, "if, on account of the judgment, it is necessary to revise the marks of students, the revised marks would be furnished to the selection committee by the university authorities within three days. The selection committee would prepare the merit list thereafter on the basis of revised marks, if any." Mr. Justice Misra, however, made it clear that the order was subject to any further order of modification to be passed at the time of final disposal of the cases. He asked the selection committee to postpone the dates for counselling accordingly.
