BANGALORE, JUNE 10. State No. 2 Y.G. Vijendra and dark horse Anish Das Sharma shot into the lead with 5.5 points each at the end of the sixth round of the State Open chess championship at the UAS campus here today. In an exciting sixth-round game, Vijendra employing a Catalan opening outwitted State junior champion Sriram Sarja. Anish Das Sharma, who has been causing quite a flutter with a string of surprises, exploited the middle game errors of Shruthi in a Ruy Lopez game and grabbed full points and joined Vijendra at the top. Six players Sriram Sarja, Arvind Shastry, Tej Kumar, T.S. Phaneendra, G.A. Stany and P.S. Sachin were in second spot with five points apiece. Three more rounds remain in this selection event and four players will be picked to represent the State in the National `B' championship, scheduled to be held in Vijayawada.
