Showers bring relief to residents

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JUNE 10. Light showers in the city today provided a respite from the scorching sun to the residents. The city experienced a swing from the sweltering morning to a cool evening.

While K.K.Nagar had light showers, Kolathur, Koyambedu, West Mambalam and T.Nagar experienced heavy rain. However, no traffic problem was reported in the city.

While Meenambakkam recorded 0.6 mm of rainfall, Nungambakkam registered a rainfall of 5.8 mm from 8.30 a.m to 5.30 p.m. today. Since June 1, Chennai recorded 5 mm, 7 mm less than the expected amount of rainfall.

Weather officials say it is common in summer to witness such drizzle and rainspells. Today's rain was due to local cloud development with a combination of the sunrays and a favourable direction of winds, says a meteorologist.

The weather office forecasts development of showers or thundershowers in parts of the city for the next 24 hours.
