MUMBAI, JUNE 11. The rupee lost another nine paise against the U.S. currency today, dragged down by sustained heavy all round dollar demand in the face of a resurgent dollar overseas, amidst rising oil prices and concerns over a possible hike in global interest rates. Slight nervousness gripped the interbank foreign exchange market after the rupee opened relatively weak at 45.06/08 a dollar and gradually declined to 45.15/16 at close, pulled down by steady dollar demand from banks, dealers said. The rupee lost eight paise yesterday after sentiment turned weak, following a fresh surge in global oil prices amidst interest rate uncertainties that arrested a eight-session strong rally. A resurgent dollar overseas, fuelled fresh dollar demand from corporates and importers and a rise in global oil prices, induced large offshore oil companies to cover short-dollar positions, a forex dealer said.
