Syria posts win
HOMS (SYRIA),
JUNE 11.
Syria beat Tajikistan 2-1 in a replayed World Cup Asian Group 6 qualifying match on Thursday, a day after the match was abandoned because of two electricity failures.
Tajikistan led 1-0 in the 34th minute through Hamidov Subrat and Syria tied it in the 67th when midfielder Yahya al-Rashed's netted from 20 metres away. Rajah Rafeh then scored the winner in the 80th, directing in a header ball from striker Maher al-Sayed.
The victory moved Syria ahead of Tajikistan into second place in the group on goal difference, three points behind group leader Bahrain, which beat Kyrgyzstan 5-0 on Wednesday. AP
