HYDERABAD, JUNE 11. Sai Praneeth and Sikki Reddy, both from Lal Bahadur Stadium, won the under-13 boys and girls singles titles respectively in the second Yonex-SAAP badminton tourmanent for sub-junior boys and girls being, organised by AP Badminton Players Welfare Association (APBPWA), at Fateh Maidan Indoor Stadium here on Friday. Sai Praneeth fought back well to down a fighting Ajay Kumar (LB Stadium) 1-15, 15-2, 15-6. For someone who was outplayed in the first game, with Ajay picking points at will with clever combination of deep returns and good net dribbles, Praneeth showed his fighting spirit and made amends by paying back the compliments. Changing the pace of the game to upset the rival's rhythm with his precise drops at the net, Praneeth was the more superior player when it mattered most. In the doubles final, Nandagopal of Guntur and Anvesh of Nalgonda got the better off Sai Praneeth and Ajay 15-11, 7-15, 15-9 to win the title. Sikki Reddy demonstrated her growing reputation by winning with ease against Lavanya of Vijayawada 11-3, 11-6. A combination of wonderful net-game and deep cross-court returns saw the Hyderabad girl wrap up the match. Earlier in the doubles final, Sikki combined well with Aditi to down Priyanka and Chandana of Vijayawada 8-15, 15-13, 15-7 to pick the title. D. Nagender, MLA, who was the chief guest and gave away the prizes, promised the youngsters that very soon he would see to that the decades-old flooring at the venue would be replaced to meet the changing needs. Pullela Gopi Chand, chairman of APBPWA, Manoj Kumar, president, APBPWA, and Vijayraghavan, organising secretary, APBPWA, thanked the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and sponsors Yonex, Srikrishna Jewellers for coming forward in a big way. The focus now shifts to the under-16 and 19 years category events for boys and girls from Saturday.
