Thanjavur June 11. A total of 9738 persons have applied for new ration cards so far in Thanjavur district, according to J. Radhakrishnan, Collector. In a release issued here today, he said the people could apply for ration cards in their respective fair price shops, anganwadis etc. before the end of this month. The Collector said 1717 centres had been established in the district to receive applications for new ration cards. The centres are at 1294 anganwadis in rural areas, 167 anganwadis in urban areas, 119 in municipal areas and 137 in town panchayat areas. Those, who apply for new ration cards, should do so with their photos attached in the applications and receive acknowledgement after giving the applications. They should produce the acknowledgement for getting new ration cards. Out of 62438 ration cards, which were categorised under Honorary (H) category, 11,853 persons have removed their H category so far by producing their cards in the respective fair price shops. The rest of those who have H seals could remove them in the fair price shops. Those who removed the H seal could get essential commodities for their cards from July 1. The H seal can be removed by ration card holders before the end of this month, the Collector added.
