Mangalore
By Our Staff Correspondent
MANGALORE, JUNE 11. The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has written to the heads of various airlines such as Air Deccan, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, and Air Sahara to reschedule their flights. In a press release, the KCCI requested the heads of the airlines to advance the flight timings on the Mangalore-Bangalore sector and arrange return flights on the same day on the Chennai-Bangalore-Mangalore-Bangalore-Chennai sector. It also asked them to consider the possibility of associating with other airlines such as Emirates, Gulf Air, and Air India to help passengers from Mangalore to fly to the Gulf directly. The KCCI also urged the authorities concerned to reintroduce Boeing 737 on the Chennai-Bangalore-Mangalore-Bangalore-Chennai sector. Noting that Mangalore was the second largest commercial centre in the State and its airport was run by the Airports Authority of India, it said that the area was attracting investment from various quarters in the private and public sectors. It was therefore imperative that the air service was commensurate with the growth projection. The KCCI noted that rescheduling the flights by one hour would enable passengers arriving on a day's work to return the same day. In the letter to Kaustavdhar, regional sales manager, Air Sahara, the KCCI said that presently, there were three aviation service providers running regular flights to and from the city. But none of them were providing direct flight facility on the Delhi-Mumbai-Mangalore circuit. It urged Air Sahara to consider starting a flight on this sector at an early morning slot.
