Navratilova gets Wimbledon singles wildcard

London: Martina Navratilova, aged 47 and who won the Wimbledon ladies singles title nine times has been given a wildcard to play singles at Wimbledon for the first time in a decade.

The former World No. 8, Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, has also been given a place.

Martina last played singles in the 1994 event when she lost the final to Conchita Martinez. Navartilova has spent the past few years playing mixed doubles with Leander Paes of India but made her singles comeback in April.

She returned to playing singles Grand Slam at the French Open but lost to Gisela Dulko 6-1, 6-3.
