MYSORE, JUNE 12. "Children's theatre: Towards mainstream," a workshop on issues concerning children's theatre, is being organised by Rangayana, a repertory company here, in association with the Sweden-based ITI and SIDA. The two-day workshop will be inaugurated on Monday. According to a press release from Rangayana, the workshop will be inaugurated by Chandrashekar Kambar, noted theatre personality and MLC. Resource persons and theatre experts from India and Sweden are expected to attend the workshop. The release says that topics such as "the concept of children's theatre in Sweden, children's theatre in Karnataka, plays, children's rights, children's theatre: expected changes in policy, and rules and status of theatre" will be discussed in detail during the workshop. The workshop has been organised to create opinion in favour of children's theatre, the release states. Experts who will participate in the workshop include Leena Freedel, Swedish children's theatre expert; U.R. Patil, Commissioner of Public Instruction; Basavalingaiah and C.G. Krishnaswamy, noted theatre Directors; and V.K. Sharma, a representative of the National School of Drama, it adds. Experts and those working in the field of children's theatre have been invited to participate in the workshop, which will strive to shape the policy on children's theatre, says the release. Among those who are expected to participate in the inaugural function are the Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Open University, K. Sudha Rao, Lingadevaru Halemane, theatre artiste, and Muddumohan, Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, according to the release.
