HYDERABAD, JUNE 12. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has asked the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to increase coal production to meet the requirements of power stations on top priority. He reviewed the company's performance in terms of production and despatches to power stations and cement industry with senior officials on Saturday. The Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, R.H. Khwaja, explained to Dr. Reddy that the company had achieved 101 per cent of long-term production in 2003-04. He said delay in getting statutory permission from Director General of Mines Safety, frequent strikes by workers and withdrawal of blasting material by the Central Government were reasons for the shortfall in production in recent months. Mr. Khwaja said there was no loss of power generation nor the cement industry was affected due to short supply of coal.
