SRINAGAR, JUNE 13. The month-long annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas will begin on July 29 from Jammu, an official spokesman said here today. The first batch of the pilgrims will arrive at Pahalgam on July 29 and the first darshan at the cave shrine will be on August 1, the spokesman said. He said the Government had also decided to allow a limited number of pilgrims to have registration through the Internet on an experimental basis this year. A high-level meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, decided to allow only 3,500 pilgrims to proceed for the darshan daily to start with. This is due to the limited holding capacity at Pahalgam and Baltal. Of this, 2700 would be allowed from the Pahalgam side and 800 from the Baltal side, the spokesman said. PTI
