JAMMU, JUNE 13. A top militant, allegedly involved in the Champnari massacre in which 25 members of a marriage party were killed six years ago, was nabbed in the Bagwa area of Doda district on Saturday. Police sources told The Hindu that the militant, identified as Ataullah Mohammad, was nabbed after a tip-off, while he was visiting his home after several years. Ataullah Mohammad belongs to the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and was wanted in the Champnari massacre in which 25 persons of the marriage party, including the bridegroom, were killed. Militants in olive green dress disguised as Army personnel lined up the men and asked them to part with their money and fired at them indiscriminately killing them on the spot. Two local militants had been arrested, while five others, including four foreigners and Ataullah had been declared absconders by the court. Ataullah is in judicial custody under Section 512.
