ERODE, JUNE 13 . For the second day in succession, farmers using the Noyyal for irrigation conducted a motorcycle rally today from Muthur to Orathupalayam reservoir. The rally was conducted to protest the Tirupur textile industries and local bodies discharging untreated waste into the river and the Orathupalayam reservoir, near Chennimalai. The farmers demanded that the Government instruct the Tirupur Textile Manufacturers Association to grant them compensation immediately. They also urged the Government to take stringent action against these industries flouting the orders of Pollution Control Board.
