VIJAYAWADA, JUNE 13. The Minister for Higher Education, Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, has asked the State Road Transport Corporation to arrange special tourist packages for pilgrims visiting the district for the forthcoming Krishna Pushkarams. The Minister, who reviewed the arrangements being made for the Pushkarams with senior district officials on Sunday, asked the RTC to come out with packages covering all pilgrimage centres and places of religious importance in the district. Presiding over the meeting, the Krishna District Collector, K. Prabhakara Reddy, told officials to speed up the works aimed at catering to basic needs of pilgrims, without compromising on their quality. The officials had been asked to identify priority areas and take up work accordingly. The works are now in various stages of completion. Several Congress MLAs from the district, including Samineni Udaya Bhanu, Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, Meka Venkata Pratapa Appa Rao, K. P. Sarathy and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, who participated in the meeting, stressed the need for the completion of works like repairs to temples, improvement of roads and provision of drinking water facilities to avoid inconvenience to pilgrims. The Mayor of Vijayawada, Panchumarthi Anuradha, the Municipal Commissioner, V. Usha Rani, the former Mayor, Jandhyala Shankar, and others participated, according to a press release.
