HYDERABAD, JUNE 13. The Joint Action Committee of junior college management associations in the State, protesting the illegal intake of students by corporate educational houses, demanded stringent action against the managements of such institutions and students who join them. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, JAC chairman, Sivaprasad Reddy, along with members of the Old City Junior Colleges Management Association, alleged that corporate educational institutions were opening sub centres and academies illegally, using the permits obtained for their main centres. In spite of continued raids and warnings by the Board of Intermediate Education officials, admission to these unauthorised centres were continuing unabated, primarily because no action was taken against them, he said. Mr. Reddy said JAC members had recently accompanied the regional inspection officers of the BIE and caught a prominent corporate institution running classes illegally. Though the RIOs issued orders to stop the classes, no action was taken and the classes were still continuing, they said. It was high time the State Government made its policy clear on such unauthorised institutions and took action against them, he said, pointing out that the regular junior colleges suffered due to the soft stance of the authorities against the rich corporate colleges. Many face a crisis due to the commercialisation of education by such groups, they said. The JAC demanded immediate closure of these unlawful academies and coaching centres apart from imposition of a limit on the intake of students by corporate institutions. The Government should cancel permits of institutions that misuse them, and penalise students who joined them, he said.
