THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 13. The Kerala Association of Travel Agents has urged the Union Government to exempt all people going abroad for employment from the mandatory emigration clearance as in the case of those going to Europe, Singapore and Malaysia. Addressing a press conference here today, the association president, K. V. Muralidharan, and the secretary, Channankara M. P. Kunju, said the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, E. Ahamed, should exert pressure on the Union Labour Ministry to get the exemption from emigration clearance for job seekers. The association has welcomed the decision of the Union Government to simplify the attestation procedures. Mr. Muralidharan said the association had been able to attest within 10 days the qualifying certificates of job seekers by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy offices. Within three weeks of starting the attestation facility, the association has been able to attest over 500 certificates received from Kasaragod in Kerala to Tirunelveli in adjoining Tamil Nadu. The association president said that all certificates obtained till June 2 had been attested and handed over to the applicants. The association leaders have alleged that certain people were trying to sabotage the attestation centre as they were charging less, compared to the fees charged by the Department of Non-Resident Keralite Affairs, and providing attestation in 10 days.
