KOLKATA, JUNE 13. Apprehending that the BJP would get political mileage out of the growing confrontation between the Congress and Samajwadi Party, veteran CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Jyoti Basu today said efforts were on by the central leadership of his party to defuse the tension. ``We are trying to sort out the differences'', Mr. Basu said and added that the party general secretary, Harkishen Singh Surjeet, was in touch with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and SP chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav. ``Our Polit Bureau member, Prakash Karat, also had deliberations with Mr.Yadav three days back.'' ``Perhaps he (Yadav) is thinking that his party's base in U.P. will be affected if Congress gains strength in the State. The Congress, which has got a paltry number of seats in U.P. in the recent Lok Sabha elections is also thinking that if he (Yadav) gains it would affect their party's prospects in the State'', the former West Bengal Chief Minister said.
