Temperature

MADURAI, JUNE 13. The city today registered a maximum temperature

of 34.4 degree Celsius

and a minimum of

26.2 degree Celsius.

Robbers arrested

Three persons who tried to rob a 48-year-old man at knifepoint today were nabbed.

A gang of three robbed

M. Mani of South Perumal Maistry Street

of Rs. 500 in the Thavittu Sandhai area this morning, and attempted to flee. Hearing his alarm, a police team patrolling the area overpowered

P. Sekhar alias Rajasekhar (23) of Thideer Nagar,

S. Raja alias `Electrician' Raja (31) of Jaihindpuram and P. Pandian (23)

of Thideer Nagar.

They confessed to having committed several thefts and robberies. Stolen property, including

15 sovereigns and a motorcycle, were recovered.

They were remanded

to judicial custody,

the police said.

Two held

The city police arrested two persons for bursting

a large number of crackers this evening without obtaining police permission.

The duo started bursting crackers when a musical concert was on at Tamukkam Grounds.

They also defied repeated warnings from the police.

Found dead

A two-day-old infant was found dead in a water tank on the By-pass Road here today.

The police said the body, noticed by passers-by, was in a decomposed state.

The S.S. Colony police

are investigating.
