Perambalur
By Our Staff Reporter
PERAMBALUR, JUNE 14 . A programme to introduce contract farming in select potential trades in Perambalur district is being chalked out. R. Venkatasubramanian, lead district manager, Indian Overseas Bank, said here recently that a study on prospects of trades like broiler and herbal farms was going on in coordination with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The strategy was aimed at promoting a tie-up with broiler traders in Namakkal and surrounding areas, who would supply the broiler, the feed and the technical know-how. Efforts would be made to improve skills of local farmers to take up contract farming. Herbal farms would be promoted in consultation with leading growers in Bangalore. A plan to set up soup chicken plants through contract farming was also under consideration. Farmers interested in taking up contract farming would be identified and motivated. Adequate training would be imparted to them. The programme would be implemented in co-ordination with various agencies and departments.
