Prachura triumphs

BANGALORE, JUNE 14. P.P. Prachura triumphed over a strong field to emerge the first State Lightning chess champion. The 11 year old topped with a better progressive score after two other players — M.S. Thejkumar and Aravind Shastry — tallied an identical six points in the Karnataka Chess Association conducted tournament at the UAS campus on Saturday.

Prachura and Thejkumar by virtue of finishing one and two in the state will represent Karnataka in the inaugural National Lightning Chess championship to be held at Guntur (AP) on June 28 and 29.

Prachura is a student of National Public School, Rajajinagar, Bangalore and trains under International Master Raja Ravisekhar.

The top six (with points and progressive scores): P.P. Prachura 6 (27.0), 2. Thejkumar M.S 6 (25.0), 3. Aravind Shastry 6 (22.0), 4. Y.G. Vijendra 5.5 (21.0), 5. T.R. Chandrashekar 5 (21.0), 6. Akash Das Sharma 5 (21.0).
