3 windows for professional admissions

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JUNE 14. Professional college admissions would be completed under three separate single window systems (SWS) this year.

According to S.S. Subramani, Chairman, permanent committee for conduct of entrance examinations in private professional colleges, government quota seats in unaided colleges would be filled under the normal SWS conducted by Anna University.

For management quota seats, a SWS counselling would be held for all seats in colleges, which opt for the common entrance test to be conducted by a consortium of association of colleges. Another single window counselling needs to be held for those colleges which, opt for Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination.

Mr. Subramani ruled that no admission be made except by following the SWS and the committee would not recognise any admission made in violation of the procedure.

Colleges could not rely on any instruction to claim that the admission was made on some other basis. The Supreme Court's direction (for forming the committee to conduct the CET and deciding on inter se merit) was made under Article 142 of the Constitution and it must be followed strictly. No executive instruction (such as the May 20, 2004 letter written by the Anna University Vice-Chancellor) contrary to the law declared by the Supreme Court could justify any claim by any management to regularise any illegal admission.
