KOCHI, JUNE 14. The former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), president and former Electricity Minister, K. Muraleedharan, today filed two separate defamation cases against the former KPCC general secretaries, R. Rajmohan Unnithan and T. Saratchandra Prasad, before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The magistrate, M.K. Kuttikrishnan, posted the cases for July 2 for taking further evidence after recording the statements of Mr. Muraleedharan. In his two complaints, Mr. Muraleedharan said that although Mr. Rajmohan Unnithan and Mr. Saratchandra Prasad were expecting the Congress ticket for contesting Lok Sabha elections, they did not get the ticket. They then held a series of press conferences, released statements and gave interviews to several TV channels with a view to wreaking vengeance against the complainant (Mr. Muraleedharan) under the mistaken notion that he was responsible for denying them the ticket. On March 18, Mr. Unnithan had told mediapersons in Thiruvananthapuram that he had been denied the ticket to contest from the Kollam Parliamentary constituency as Mr. Muraleedharan had accepted money from Sooranad Rajasekharan, the Congress candidate for the Kollam Lok Sabha seat. The former KPCC general secretary had threatened to "expose many things" if any one dared to challenge the statement. On March 25, Mr. Unnithan had alleged that the complainant had used the KPCC office for immoral activities. Mr. Unnithan had also alleged that the complainant had hatched a conspiracy in the residence of a CPI(M) leader to sabotage the Antony Government.
