Failed students get counselling

CHENNAI, JUNE 14. Six hundred students who failed the standard X and XII board examinations this year participated in a free career counselling camp organised by the University of Madras National Service Scheme (NSS) at New College here today.

The Education Minister, S. Semmalai, inaugurated the workshop and released a 40-page book, `Vettriye un vilai enna.' The book deals with the psychology of concentration, time management and target fixing.

P. Mahalingam, NSS coordinator in the university, said students were divided into 20 groups for psychology-based counselling on goal setting, time management, study environment, concentration, memory power and on how to learn with a scientific approach and awareness.

The discussions also focussed on the fear of failure in examinations. The Director of School Education, S. Paramasivam, the Director of Collegiate Education and NSS State coordinator, M.A. Muthveeraganapathy, each received a copy of the book from the Minister. S.P. Theyagarajan, Vice-Chancellor, A. Abdul Hakeem, principal, New College, Khader Basha, senior programme officer, NSS, New College, and television personality Ramesh Prabha, took part in the function.
