Temperature

TIRUCHI, JUNE 14 . The City today registered a maximum temperature of 34.3 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.5 degree Celsius.

Auto-drivers held

Seven autorickshaw drivers were reportedly arrested on charges of attacking a mechanic and ransacking his workshop at Ponmalai yesterday.

The police said the attack was a sequel to a quarrel between the mechanic, Jeyaraj (25) and an

auto-driver, Sami, over the latter's insistence that the repair work of his autorickshaw be attended to immediately.

The rest of the auto drivers entered the scene and attacked Jeyaraj, the police added.

Body found

The unidentified body of a male said to be over 70-year-old was found near the Thiruvanaikovil temple today. The Srirangam police have registered a case.

Vehicle checks

The traffic police conducted surprise vehicle checks in several parts of the city on Sunday night and registered 70 cases of overspeeding, drunken driving and overloading, official sources said.

Chain-snatcher caught

A chain-snatcher was reportedly caught red-handed by the police at the Central Bus Stand today.

The police said Rajagopal of Narayana Nagar, Woraiyur, had attempted to snatch a two-sovereign gold chain from Muthulaksmi (38), who was waiting to board a bus to Keelaveli.

The police swung into action after Muthulakshmi raised an alarm, the police added.

Succumbs

to burns

A 19-year-old woman, Banumathi of Ariyamangalam, who reportedly sustained burns on Sunday when a stove burst while cooking, succumbed today.

The Ariyamangalam police have registered a case. An RDO enquiry has been ordered, according to official sources.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 39.47 feet today. The inflow was 2654 cusecs and the discharge nil.
