Protest at Vallarpadam

KOCHI, JUNE 14. The Vishala Kochi Dweep Vikasana Samiti will stage a protest demonstration on Tuesday by sowing paddy on the road. The protest is to demand immediate tarring and repair of the Vallarpadam Bridge, one of the approach roads to the Vypeen-Ernakulam Bridges. The Samiti patron, K.P. Haridas, will inaugurate the protest at 3-30 p.m., and other leaders, including the Vypeen block panchayat president, C.M. Devassi, and the vice-president, K.K. Anirudhan, will participate.

Corporation Office march

The CPI-ML (Red Flag) will take out a march to the office of the Kochi Corporation on Tuesday morning demanding that the Corporation cancel the Asian Development Bank loan and abandon the privatisation bids in the Corporation. The march will start at 10-30 a.m. from the High Court Jetty.

Trawling ban: vigil at Vypeen

A 12-member Marine Enforcement team was posted at Vypeen today to check any violation of the ban on monsoon trawling, which comes into effect at midnight tonight. The team was supplemented by 30 policemen from the district reserve police. They kept a vigil all through the night.

Training postponed

The extensive training programme for primary school teachers in the revenue district, which was organised out by the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) from Tuesday, has been postponed owing to the one-day verification in schools, according to the SSA district project officer. The new date will be announced later.

Passports issued

Police verification has been completed for the applications for passports received till March 17, 2004, and the passports have been issued by the Regional Passport Office, Kochi. The passports have been despatched in the week ending June 11, 2004, according to the Regional Passport Officer.

Learning Centre of KRL

The Learning Centre of Kochi Refineries Ltd. has been approved by the State Government for conducting statutory training programme for personnel working in factories, which is mandatory under the Factories Act (1948). The topics will include legal, safety, health and environmental aspects that factory personnel must be aware of.
