HYDERABAD, JUNE 15. The All India Sunni Ulama Board urged the Government to set up a commissionerate to manage the wakf affairs as the Wakf Board had failed to protect its properties. Improper administration had led to loss of valuable properties worth crores of rupees, said Moulana Syed Shah Badruddin Quadri Al Jeelani, president of the Board. He told presspersons here on Tuesday that the administration in the Wakf Board had come to a halt with open conflict going on between the chairman, Mohd Saleem, and Board members. Every one was trying to paint the other black. The lack of faith expressed by members in the ability of the chairman did not augur well. Converting the Board into a commissionerate was the only solution to streamline the administration and protect the wakf properties, Moulana Badruddin said. He said if properly managed, the Board's properties worth over Rs 20,000 crores were enough to address the problems facing the minorities and to raise their educational and economic status. He wanted Mr. Saleem to reveal the illegal activities of the Board members if he knew. Moulana Badruddin charged Akbar Nizamuddin, one of the Board members, with trying to grab the post of the Board's chairman to cover his "illegal activities". Moulana Badruddin sought to give a clean chit to Mr. Saleem by saying that he was functioning on Islamic lines even though he was neither a sajjada nor a mutawalli.
