Accused escapes from custody

DINDIGUL, JUNE 15. An accused escaped from police custody on his way to the court in Vedasanthur today.

Police said that two escorts took Balamurugan (23), who was lodged in Dindigul sub-jail since May 19, 2004 on charges of vehicle theft and distillation of illicit arrack, to the court in Vedasanthur.

When they reached the Vedasanthur bus stand, the accused went to the toilet and did not come back.

Six cases — two vehicle theft and four illicit distillation arrack cases — were registered against him at Thadikombu and Eriyode police stations.
