VELLORE, JUNE 15. The Planning Commission member, A. Sekhar, inspected the works taken up under the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana (RSVY) Development-cum-Rehabilitation Project in Tiruvannamalai district last week. He appreciated the manner in which the works were executed. According to a release by the District Rural Development Agency, Tiruvannamalai, Rs.15 crores was allotted for 2003-04 for the project funded by the Centre. The scheme, which was meant to develop the most backward areas of a State, aims at providing transport and irrigation facilities, helping farmers adopt modern cultivation methods and improving sanitation. The following works sanctioned for 2003-04 are being implemented by various departments. Agricultural Engineering department 14 works on development of micro watershed areas at a cost of Rs. 279.675 lakhs; District Forest Officer, Tiruvannamalai 120 works on upgrading forests facing destruction (Rs. 99.90 lakhs); Water Resources Organisation, Public Works department, Tiruvannamalai 62 irrigation works (Rs. 350 lakhs); Joint Director of Agriculture 112 works relating to development of agriculture (Rs. 75.70 lakhs); Assistant Director of Horticulture floriculture and cultivation of herbal plants on 200 hectares (Rs. 37.82 lakhs); Divisional Engineer, Highways 28 works on development of district roads for a length of 69.50 km (Rs. 355.55 lakhs); Deputy Director of Health Services 1,500 works on training in medicine and nutrition (Rs. 90 lakhs); District Informatics Centre, Tiruvannamalai 18 works on establishment of information and communication centres with Internet facility (Rs. 36 lakhs); Joint Director of Health Services 2,044 works on provision of infrastructure in primary health centres (Rs. 40.23 lakhs); Rural Development department 37 works on repairs to school buildings (Rs. 49.67 lakhs); Assistant Director of Handlooms 400 works on modernisation of the handloom technology (Rs. 30 lakhs); Government Arts College, Tiruvannamalai analysis and evaluation of RSVY (Rs. 6 lakhs).
