India wins relay silver

IPOH, JUNE 15. India won a relay silver and added two more bronze medals to its tally on the concluding day of the 11th Asian junior athletics championships here on Tuesday.

The Indian men's team of Pramod, Bacchu Durlav, R. Bangaraiah and Sunil Kumar took the silver behind Saudi Arabia in the 4x400m relay, clocking 3:13.99. Saudi Arabia timed 3:09.02.

In men's hammer Madhu Kumar threw to a distance of 65.25 metres to claim the bronze while Pritam Bind took the third place in the men's 1500m in a time of 3:53.62.

India's Surinder Singh finished fourth in the 100m in 10.80s while Pavneet Kaur ended up eighth in the women's dash with 12.44.

The other Indian results on the final day included a sixth-place finish for Gurmeet Singh in the 10,000m walk, fourth place for Himanshu Kala (65.12m) in hammer, sixth place for M. Renjith (15.55m) in triple jump, seventh place for Kavita Raut in women's 3000m (10:51.62), sixth place for Suman Devi in javelin (48.33), fifth place for Pooja Ahlawat in heptathlon (4557) and sixth place for the women's 4x400m relay team.

India finished ninth in the medals tally with one gold, two silver and four bronze medals. India's lone gold came on the second day when K.J. Clinton won the long jump title.

China topped the standings with 16 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze. Saudi Arabia (6-4-4) and Japan (5-6-8) finished second and third.

Men: 100m: 1. Yahya Al Gahes (KSA) 10.40s, 2. Yahya Habeeb (KSA) 10.53, 3. Guo Fan (Chn) 10.66.

1500m: 1. Khamis Sultan Zaman (Qat) 3:50.99, 2. Saeed Majid Sultan (Qat) 3:52.44, 3. Pritam Bind (Ind) 3:53.62.

110m hurdles: 1. Mubarak Al Mabadi (KSA) 14.21s, 2. Kuo Hung-Yi (Tpe) 14.45, 3. Tomoki Nakamura (Jpn) 14.54.

Triple jump: 1. Mohammad Majrashi (KSA) 16.25m, 2. Artyom Lobachev (Uzb) 15.86, 3. Azmy Muhammad Sulaiman (Qat) 15.70.

4x100m: 1. Thailand 40.30s, 2. Saudi Arabia 40.54, 3. China 40.64.

10,000m walk: 1. Li Jianbo (Chn) 42:43.08, 2. Kim Hyun-Sup (Kor) 42:49.80, 3.Gong Jiancheng (Chn) 43:06.13.

Hammer: 1. Zhao Yihai (Chn) 72.81m, 2. Lin Ming-Chien (Tpe) 70.22, 3. Madhu Kumar (Ind) 65.25.

4x100m: 1. Thailand 40.30s, 2. Saudi Arabia 40.54, 3. China 40.64.

4x400m: 1. Saudi Arabia 3:09.02, 2. India 3:13.99, 3. Thailand 3:14.52.

Women: 100m: 1. WangWenshan (Chn) 11.61s, 2. Zou Yingting (Chn) 11.72, 3. Siti Fatima Mohammaed (Mas) 12.12.

3000m: 1. Tomomi Yuda (Jpn) 9:30.66, 2. Wang Shijuan (Chn) 9:32.61, 3. Yuki Kazama (Jpn) 9:35.11.

100m hurdles: 1. Nataliya Ivoniskaya (Kaz) 13.92s, 2. Wan Jindan (Chn) 14.05, 3. Kim Su-Bin (Kor) 14.07.

Pole vault: 1. Zhao Yinqying (Chn) 4.20 (AJR), 2. Azusa Aoki (Jpn) 3.80, 3. Chol Yun-Mee (Kor) 3.80.

Shot put: 1. Li Ling (Chn) 16.08m, 2. Vasilina Kozayarskaya (Uzb) 14.10, 3. Wan Lay Chi (Sin) 12.20.
