MYSORE, JUNE 15. Tension prevailed near a private hospital here on Tuesday following the death of a casual worker of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. The police said Shivaraj (26) of Huliyalu village suffered severe burns when he came into contact with a live wire while carrying out some repairs atop an electrical pole two weeks ago. The junior engineer, who was supervising the work, is said to have switched on power, resulting in severe burns for Shivaraj. The victim battled for life for more than 15 days and died this morning. Soon, more than 150 people from Huliyalu gathered near the hospital and staged a dharna seeking action against the engineer. They disallowed the authorities to shift the body for post-mortem till their demands were met. However, senior police officials rushed to the hospital and pacified the crowd. The body was shifted to the K.R. Hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by the Shivaraj's father who accused the authorities concerned of wilful negligence.
