Transparency in life is dharma, says seer

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JUNE 15. <150> An all-religion conference here today emphasised the role of "dharma" in eschewing hatred and violence and maintaining peace and harmony in society.

The conference was organised by the Karnataka Jeevan Vigyan Academy on the occasion of Acharya Mahapragyaji's 85th birthday.

Shivarudra Swamiji of Beli Math said that it would be pertinent to call the conference a dharma sammelan instead of sarvadharma sammelan as dharma is a unified entity. Though the interpretation of dharma varied from culture to culture, its essence remained unchanged. In the purest sense, transparency in life was dharma. However, the mundane notion of sarvadharma was essential for harmony and world peace, he added.

Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Math said that it was unfortunate that the very concept of dharma had been subjected to morbid interpretations.

There was a need to identify its innate and unified characteristics. "Metaphorically, dharma is the throne of the God," he added.

The Archbishop of Bangalore, Ignatius Pinto, said dharma was a vehicle and a kind of enactment in achieving human excellence underlined by compassion and peace. It was the root of life, he said. A number of religious heads participated in the conference.
