`Untimely death'
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
JUNE 15.
Justice A. Packiaraj, who passed away on June 3, had expressed his willingness to sit in the proposed bench of the Madras High Court in Madurai, the Chief Justice, B. Subhashan Reddy, said here yesterday.
Speaking at a full court reference organised to condole the death, Mr. Justice Reddy said Justice Packiaraj had met him on May 29 and expressed his inability to attend the inauguration of the Bench (which was then scheduled for but postponed) as he was getting hospitalised the next day. He also wanted to preside over a court in the Madurai Bench for some time, the Chief Justice added.
``Little did I realise then that death would come so soon,'' he said, adding that even though death was certain for every human being, the untimely death of Justice Packiaraj had come as a bolt from the blue. All judges of the High Court, office-bearers of various advocates associations and court officers attended. After a two-minute silence all court works were suspended for the rest of the day.
