MANGALORE, JUNE 15. Sangeetha Bharathi, a Mangalore-based organisation dedicated to the promotion of music, has organised a musical evening, "Megh Sandhya," at the Town Hall here on Thursday. The programme is the first of a series that will mark the seventh anniversary of Sangeetha Bharathi. The programme includes a Hindustani classical vocal recital by Mounesh Kumar Chavani of All India Radio, Mangalore, and a Hindustani classical instrumental concert by Salil Bhatt. Mr. Chavani will perform between 6 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. He will be accompanied by Shashikanth Kulkarni on the tabla and Narendra Nayak on the harmonium. Mr. Bhatt will play the "Satwik Veena" between 7.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. He will be accompanied by Ram Kumar Mishra of Varnasi on the tabla. Rafique Khan, president of Sangeetha Bharathi, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the programme was open to the public and requested all music lovers to attend it in large numbers. He also urged people to encourage Sangeetha Bharathi by becoming its members. Narendra Nayak, vice-president, Radhakrishna Rao Perody, secretary, and Usha P. Nayak were present. Mr. Chavani, who hails from Raichur district, is a staff artiste with All India Radio, Mangalore. He learnt classical music under Pandit Puttaraj Gavai of Gadag. Mr. Chavani has performed at various music festivals all over the country. Mr. Salil Bhatt is the son of the Grammy Award winner, Vishwamohan Bhatt. Mr. Salil Bhatt has made the Satwik Veena himself for more pronounced depth, richness, and continuity while rendering classical ragas. He has given solo concerts all over the country and abroad as well.
